Starts off with Pont-y-Pant falls, a long technical rapid ending in a slide. If you're feeling like you'd rather have a warm-up before tacking this, it is possible to put in below by carrying 150m down the road on river left. A few more good grade 4 rapids follow before the 'minger', which marks the start of a fun 200m gorge. The 'minger' forms a chunky hole (portage over the rocks hard left) at anything above medium levels, but when it is high, a chicken line with a nice boof line opens up down the portage line. A small bridge (53°04'06.0"N 3°50'09.8"W) marks an alternative takeout half-way, or continue down, being sure to get out river right to portage Viaduct falls – a long manky siphon filled rapid that has been run but is not recommended.
Takeout just south of Betws-y-Coed on the A470 at the confluence with the Conwy (the same takeout as the Fairy Glen). To get to the putin continue up the A470 away from Betws-y-Coed to Pont-y-Pant bridge (a small bridge just off the main road next to a restaurant). Don't forget to drop a few quid in the honesty box for use of their land for parking.
