|Paddleable||very low to medium|
in Dartmoor · South West · other sections on Exe
Flat apart from weirs: this is one to save for low water when nothing else is running. When higher, you'll just portage round a series of hideous towbacks.
Gauge the level at Flowerpots weir (at the 'Mill on the Exe' pub, EX4 3AB). If the weir is showing some dry patches it will be low but just about go. If the river left chute is forming a stopper at the bottom, you have a reasonable medium level. If the chute is washing into a wave, you probably want to go elsewhere.
Takeout at Haven Bank Quay in Exeter, parking near the AS Watersports shop (EX2 8GX). To putin, park at Stokes Wood carpark, just north of Exeter on the A386. From the carpark, carry your boats further along the road and then down a track to the river just upstream of the railway bridge.
